It’s a full-on reboot this summer for one of Hollywood’s biggest grossing movie franchises ever. Spider-Man returns this July with the brand new The Amazing Spider-Man. It’s been 5 years since Tobey Maguire last donned the Spider-Man costume in Spider-Man 3. Now Marvel reboots the franchise with Andrew Garfield in the lead role.
There is also a new director for The Amazing Spider-Man: Marc Webb takes over, directing his first ever mega budget F/X extravaganza. Other new actors in ths new Spidey include Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Emma Stone, Gwen Stacy. The new villian in this movie is The Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans. The early word says Lizard os more complicated villain than we’ve seen in past Spider-Man films.
The stakes with The Amazing Spider-Man are extremely high for Sony Studios. Pull it off and reinvigorate the franchise, and billions in revenues can be made and set up new sequels. Drop the ball on this movie, and the Comic-Con fans will rip this to shreds.
Turns out that Batman isn’t the only superhero that can make headlines this week. Fresh on the heels of the first teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, we’ve also got the first trailer from 2012′s The Amazing Spider-Man. Director Marc Webb is giving us a Spider-Man reboot, starring Andrew Garfield as the webslinger Peter Parker, along with Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans and Martin Sheen. Blake Lively, Jon Hamm and Chris Cooper.
Coming to theatres on July 22nd: Captain America: The First Avenger. This movie is a bit of a prequel, setting up the first character in 2012′s mega-superhero movie from Marvel – The Avengers. Captain America takes place in the WW II era, while The Avengers will take place in present day.
Chris Evans stars in the lead role. This isn’t Evans’ first gig as a superhero, previously playing the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four film series. Hugo Weaving and Tommy Lee Jones also star. The plot will focus on The First Avenger battling the Red Skull, a Nazi weapons genius. Director Joe Johnson states the film won’t be USA propaganda but we should note that “Captain America” is being dropped from the film’s title in some foreign marketplaces.
Definitely one of the most anticipated movies of Summer 2011 will be Captain America: The First Avenger. Coming to theatres worldwide on July 22nd, Chris Evans stars in the lead role on this latest Marvel Comics superhero movie. This is not Evans’ first superhero gig either, having already acted in the Fantastic Four films.
The first poster image has been released for X-Men: First Class!
It has been one of the most popular film franchises over the past decade, and this summer will bring us another X-Men flick: X-Men First Class hits theatres on June 3rd. Fox Studios has released the first poster image. In addition, the first trailer for the film will be released on February 10th. The trailer will offer a first look at the younger years of Professor X and his pupils. The movie, directed by Kick-Ass filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in the Professor X and Magneto roles. Mad Men‘s January Jones co-stars as Emma Frost.
There are a lot of superhero movies on the release slate this coming summer. In addition to X-Men First Class, Thor and Captain America, we also have Green Lantern coming out on June 17th. Thor and the new X-Men movies come out before the Lantern: will ticket buyers have reached superhero boredom by mid-June? Ryan Reynolds tries to make the transition from comedy and rom-com to action movies as jet-set test pilot Hal Jordan and his alter-ego Green Lantern. Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Mark Strong also star.
Hot news about the reboot of the Spider-Man franchise! Sony Pictures has released the first image of star Andrew Garfield in the new costume, while also announcing that the film will be officially titled ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’.
In addition to star Garfield, other cast members include Emma Stone, Martin Sheen, Rhys Ifans and Philip Seymour Hoffman, with Marc Webb directing. Webb is currently conducting principal photography on the film. Expected to be the tent pole release of Summer 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man will swing into theaters worldwide in both 2D and 3D on July 3rd of 2012.
