It was a sad weekend for comedy fans as veteran actor Leslie Nielsen passed away at the age of 84 at his home in Florida.
Nielsen was best known as a master of parody, being able to deliver the most ridiculous lines in the straightest way possible. The Canadian born Nielsen acted in comedy roles since the 1950′s but he is likely best remembered for his lead roles in Airplane! and the Naked Gun series, including Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad (which was actually spun off from a cult favorite TV show), Naked Gun 2 1/2 The Smell of Fear and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult. Perhaps Nielsen’s best known line was this classic from Airplane!: “Surely you can’t be serious!” “I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley”.
