Each year, Forbes magazine takes little time away from its usual focus of the business world and publishes a list of the top paid people in tinseltown: today, we take a look at the highest paid actresses in the business. Topping the list this year is Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker, each earning about $30 million in the past year. Those ladies were followed closely by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, who both brought in around $28 M. Hmmmm, perhaps the key to making it to the top of the list is to hook up with Brad Pitt?
The rest of the top 10 list included Julia Roberts ($20 M), Kristen Stewart ($20 M), Katherine Heigl ($19 M), Cameron Diaz ($18 M), Sandra Bullock ($15 M), and Meryl Streep ($10 M). The top paid actresses still earn significantly less than their male counterparts: Johnny Depp topped the male list in 2010 with $75 million.

Time for a Hunger Games update! We now officially have an actress who will play the lead role of Katniss Everdeen: recent Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence has landed the plum role.
The big screen adaptations of Suzanne Collins hit book series is expected to become a hugely popular film series, starting with the scheduled 2012 release of The Hunger Games. Social media and internet chatter had been active on the topic of who plays Katniss for many months but the guessing game is over. Jennifer Lawrence is hardly a household name (now anyway!) but she was nominated for an Oscar for her work in 2010s’ Winter’s Bone. No other Hunger Games casting news yet, but the film will be directed by Gary Ross.

Legendary actor and pin-up girl Jane Russell passed away on March 1, 2011 at the age of 89. Russell was well-known even before she made any movies, being the star of famous pin-up posters during the World War II era. The posters were particular favorites of GIs. Russell was originally discovered by eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes, who was looking for a new star for his film The Outlaw. That remains perhaps her most famous movie role.
She went on to appear in many more films, before almost abandoning Hollywood after the 1960s for a quieter life. Her most famous film roles remain The Outlaw and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, where she co-starred with Marilyn Monroe. She will be fondly remembered by many who treasure the classic movies and film stars of the 1940s and 50s.

The 2010 Oscar campaigns are officially underway. The Academy mailed out the 2010 ballots earlier this week, which are due back from voters by January 14th. That leaves a 3 week period of subtle campaigning by the studios, including mailing out copies to the films to voters.
Once the nominations are announced, a second, less subtle round of studio marketing begins to push a nominated film to Oscar winner status. So which films are currently the favorites to get nominated in the major categoriesÉ Dave Karber of EW.com provides a weekly, updated list of the movies and actors that he expects to be nominated, and eventually win the Academy Awards.
According to Karger, The King`s Speech, The Social Network, The Fighter, Inception nd Toy Story 3 remain the Best Picture favorites. His list of most likely actor nominees includes Colin Firth, James Franco, Jamie Eisenberg, Natalie Portman, Jeff Bridges, Annette Bening, Christian Bale and Nicole Kidman.
