Oscar wasn’t the only award being given out over the weekend: the 2011 Razzie Awards were also presented.
The film that had the most nominations this year was also the big ‘winner’: The Last Airbender won 4 Razzie categories, including Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay. Close behind was the poorly made and badly received sequel Sex and the City 2, which was given 3 Razzie Awards. The entire SATC cast shared the Worst Actress award.
This was the 31st annual edition of the Razzies, which were first created in 1980. Other stars taking their lumps this year with Razzie wins included Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Jackson Rathbone and of course M. Night Shyamalan.
Now that they’ve been around for 30 years and many winning actors actually show up at the ceremonies, the Razzie Awards have become a legitimate event. Although, no movie or celebrity still wants to find themselves on the nominations list.
Among those unfortunate folks getting Worst Acting nominations are Gerard Butler, Taylor Lautner, Jack Black, Miley Cyrus, Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Aniston, and all four lead actresses from Sex and the City 2. The Razzies have added a new award category this year: Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D. The 2010 Razzies will be awarded on February 26th, one day before the 83rd Academy Awards.
2010 was a mixed bag at the box office: the year started out very big with Avatar, and the promise of big box office returns pumped up from a lot of 3D films and their higher ticket prices. However, as the year went on, the box office haul sort of petered out and it was a mediocre year overall. That doesn`t mean there weren`t lots of films that people loved, and more important to us here at MovieGoods, there were lots of movie posters that people loved!
We take a look back at our top selling movie posters of 2010. Although a couple of these films were released right at the tail end of 2009, they carried through with momentum into 2010 and that`s when many of our customers purchased the posters. We also have a 2011 film release in our list of bestsellers: the full list is below:
Thanks to everyone who purchased these posters from us during 2010! If you missed one of these items, stock is still available – just click on any movie title to view available items.
The 2010 Oscar campaigns are officially underway. The Academy mailed out the 2010 ballots earlier this week, which are due back from voters by January 14th. That leaves a 3 week period of subtle campaigning by the studios, including mailing out copies to the films to voters.
Once the nominations are announced, a second, less subtle round of studio marketing begins to push a nominated film to Oscar winner status. So which films are currently the favorites to get nominated in the major categoriesÉ Dave Karber of EW.com provides a weekly, updated list of the movies and actors that he expects to be nominated, and eventually win the Academy Awards.
Is The Social Network the Academy Awards favorite? Other than The King’s Speech, no other film is receiving as much love on year end ‘Best of 2010′ lists, as well as multiple nominations and awards from critics and various film associations. Based on the book ‘The Accidental Billionaires’, the film tells the story of Mark Zuckerberg and how he started Facebook, and turned it into the social and economic force it is today.
The Social Network has received love from The Golden Globes, The National Board of Review, New York Film Critics Circle, L.A. Film Critics Association, Screen Actors Guild, Roger Ebert, Entertainment Weekly and just about every other relevant film critic in America. With momentum like that, coupled with a very nice box office return of over $90 million, The Social Network seems like a lock to get multiple Oscar nominations this year, including Best Picture. At this point, it’s likely just a question of how many Oscar nominations the film gets.
The AFI (American Film Institute) has released it’s list of the 10 Best movies of 2010. The AFI is well known for its numerous ‘Best Of’ lists and a spot on the annual AFI list is considered a great barometer of possible upcoming Academy Award nominations.
The end of 2010 is coming soon. That means it is the time we start seeing Best and Worst movies of 2010 lists. Early out of the chute on this is author Stephen King, who also regularly writes pop culture articles for Entertainment Weekly magazine. King doesn’t claim to be an accomplished film critic but he knows what he likes. Not surprisingly, his Top 10 list includes more horror films than you would normally find on lists like this.
Films that made King’s cut in 2010 include: The Town, Green Zone, Splice, Kick-Ass and The Social Network, Inception, and his best film of the year Let Me In. I dare say you won’t see that film at the top of any other Best of 2010 lists. According to King, Let Me In “is a story of teenage love and loss that makes the Twilight films look pallid by comparison”.
