You can rarely go wrong with a Richard Linklater (”Dazed and Confused” and “Before Sunset“) directed film. This movie follows the story of a young man who gets enmeshed in the goings-on of the Mercury Theatre Company in 1937 in the week prior to Orson Welles‘ broadway production of “Julius Caesar”. Orson Welles is played by Christian McKay. An inspired casting decision has excellent UK journeyman actor Eddie Marsan as John Houseman. Less inspiring (it seems) is the choice of Zack Efron as the central character, Richard Samuels. Was he cast because he can actually act or because he is an “it” boy of the “High School Musical” series of films? I guess we will have to wait and see. One thing that is puzzling is why has it taken over a year for this movie to go into general release after it was first shown at the Toronto Film Festival in 2008? Generally not a good sign. The movie poster has the principal actors standing in the shadow shot-from-behind image of the great Orson Welles. Look for the movie on the 25th of November when it hits theaters in the USA.
